Hola caracola,
How are you? Honestly, if you asked me that question, I wouldn’t even know how to answer.
2020 has been an absurdly hard and tumultuous year so far. (I wrote a list of anxieties, problems and calamities, but I ended up deleting it… it was too depressing to bear). The funny thing is: tiny wonderful miracles keep happening every day. Despite it all, the sun rises, butterflies flutter, flowers bloom and puppies play.
It's difficult to hold onto joy when bad things keep happening. It’s hard to share good news when the people you love are suffering. But I refuse to let everything good pass unnoticed. So I want to share some important news with you.
As you have probably guessed from that family portrait… I’m pregnant!
My husband and I are expecting a baby girl in September (she is almost here!). We are super excited to finally meet her. And just in case parenthood was not a big enough change, we've moved!
I emigrated to the United States 7 years ago, and I've loved building a life in San Francisco. It’s a beautiful quirky city. I will miss the amazing food, the art museums, the local bookstores, and especially the people. I’ve made great friends and I’ve met many creative folks in the children’s book industry. It’s sad to say goodbye, but it was time.
I’m ready to start a new life in Sacramento!
We now live in a cute house with a red door and a garden full of roses. It’s all very “American” (just like in the movies I used to watch as a kid!). Quite the shock for a girl who grew up sharing a room with her sister in a tiny city apartment. – By the way, how does one take care of a garden? Please send help!
Starting over again with a newborn (during a pandemic and with toxic air from the wildfires) is a bit daunting… But I’m hoping for the best. I’m looking forward to making new friends and meeting cool writers and illustrators. I can’t wait to organize children’s book classes and events again! I might even travel back to San Francisco to teach some workshops on the weekends.
All right, I’m signing off for now. I’ll follow up with some book related news soon!
